Osvaldo R. Saavedra

He completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the State University of Campinas in 1993. He is currently a full professor at the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA). He is a co-founder and permanent professor of the Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering at UFMA, the founder of the Alternative Energy Center at UFMA, and coordinated the founding of the Institute of Electrical Energy at UFMA. He has coordinated and/or participated in over 30 research and development projects, involving national and international collaboration and applied research. He is a frequent member of committees for national and international conferences. He has published over 300 articles in journals and conferences. He has served as the Coordinator for the Northeast region of the Brazilian Society of Automation (SBA) and was a member of its Superior Council for two terms. He was vice-president of SBA from 2010 to 2012 and a member of the Triennial Evaluation Commission for Engineering Area IV – CAPES in 2010 and 2013. He is a member of several editorial committees, a reviewer for various journals, and a member of SBA and IEEE. His interests include the operation of modern power systems, microgrids, and renewable energies. From 2011 to 2014, he was the Deputy Secretary of Science and Technology of the State of Maranhão. He was president of SBA from 2017 to 2018 and a member of the CA-EE of CNPq. He is currently the coordinator of the National Institute of Science and Technology in Ocean Energy – INEOF.
