José Adolfo Oliveira das Chagas holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from UFRJ, a Master’s in Chemistry, and a degree in Petroleum Chemistry with academic honors from UFRN. He has technological expertise and specialization in Petroleum from Petrobras’s Human Resources Training Program (PFRHPB-222). He was part of the Laboratory of Membranes and Colloids (LAMECO) at UFRN, studying methods for crosslinking and plasticizing polymer membranes for wastewater treatment in the petroleum industry. At UFRJ’s Laboratory of Hydrocarbon Reactivity, Biomass, and Catalysis (LARHCO), he develops new functionalized materials for CO2 capture and conversion, and prototypes carbon capture processes from the air and emission sources. An entrepreneur awarded by FAPERJ, Startup Rio, and Doctor Entrepreneur, he has extensive experience in petroleum chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer and colloid chemistry, green chemistry, adsorption, and organic catalysis. His interests include thermodynamics and chemical kinetics, organic chemistry, green chemistry, sustainability, circular economy, technological innovation, and entrepreneurship. Cofounder and Director of CarbonAir Energy, a Deep Tech company specializing in carbon capture and utilization (CCU). The startup is a pioneer in CCU in Brazil, certified as a sustainable venture by Shell, highlighted in the Ocyan Waves Booster, and ranked Top 1 in the Chemistry, Energy, Oil, and Gas category in the Deep Tech 2023 award.
