SPEAKER
Angela Belcher is a distinguished professor at MIT, where she leads the Biomolecular Materials Group, focusing on the intersection of nanotechnology and bioengineering. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Creative Studies with an emphasis in biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, followed by a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from the same institution. Her doctoral work centered on the development of materials and technologies inspired by nature, aimed at creating new forms of electronic and magnetic materials. Belcher’s research at MIT has been groundbreaking in harnessing the capabilities of genetically engineered viruses to construct novel, environmentally friendly materials for energy applications, such as batteries and solar panels. Her innovative approach has made significant contributions to the fields of materials science and biological engineering, particularly in developing sustainable energy solutions.
