Since 2011, Elbia Gannoum has served as the CEO of ABEEÓLICA (Brazilian Wind Energy Association). She holds a Doctorate in Production Engineering (2003) and a Master’s in Economics (1999) from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, and a degree in Economic Science from the Federal University of Uberlândia (1997). Her distinguished career includes roles such as Member of the Board of the Electrical Energy Chamber of Commerce (CCEE) (2006-2011), Chief Economist at the Ministry of Mines and Energy (2003-2006), Coordinator of the Political Institute at the Ministry of Finance (2002-2003), Economic Affairs Advisor at the Ministry of Mines and Energy (2001), Advisor to ANEEL (2001), and Professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (1998-2000). Under her leadership at ABEEÓLICA, wind energy has grown to represent over 12% of Brazil’s electricity matrix, with more than 22 GW installed across over 800 wind farms. In 2019, she was honored with the “C3E – Clean Energy Education & Empowerment – Woman of Distinction Award,” recognizing her excellence in the clean energy industry. In 2020, she joined the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) as Vice Chair, focusing on energy transformation, gender equity, and the expansion of wind energy technology worldwide.
